The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, with reference to the answer of 20 April 2026, to Question 124854, on Chagos Islands: Sovereignty, what was the monetary amount of the qualifying NATO spending in 2025-26.

Answered by Ministry of Defence

NATO's Defence Investment Update, published in July 2026, estimated that the United Kingdom's core defence expenditure in 2025 was £70.511 billion.

NATO's figures are compiled in accordance with NATO's agreed definition of defence expenditure. The 2025 figure is an estimate.
