The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Education, what steps she is taking to prevent abuse of the student loans system from overseas students who fail to repay their loans.

This government is resolute in its commitment to protecting public money in higher education, and we are taking firm action to address serious concerns about exploitation of the student funding system.
To be compliant with their loan repayment obligations, borrowers must inform the Student Loan Company (SLC) if they reside outside the UK for more than three months and make the required repayments if they are above the relevant repayment threshold.
If borrowers based overseas fail to remain in contact with the SLC, they are placed in arrears by SLC applying a default required repayment rate, the outstanding balance of which can be pursued as debt.
