Defence: Finance

Asked by Stuart AndersonConservativeMinistry of DefenceTabled Answered 8 September 2026UIN 21431

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, if he will make a comparative assessment of the strategic approach to UK defence in the (i) Defence Investment Plan 2026 with the (ii) Strategic Defence Review 2025.

Answered by Ministry of Defence

The Defence Investment Plan (DIP) is aligned with the Strategic Defence Review (SDR) in its strategic approach and is the next step in delivering the SDR's vision. The purpose of the DIP was to identify and fund priorities in line with the SDR's recommendations. In this new era of threat, the SDR and DIP prioritise warfighting readiness with NATO at the heart of UK defence and deterrence. They ensure Defence is an engine for growth, jobs, and prosperity, including through their focus on innovation and autonomy.
