USA: Military Alliances
The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, with reference to page 73 of his Department's Strategic Defence Review, published on 2 June 2025, what assessment his Department has made of the potential merits of working (a) more and (b) less closely with the United States.
Answered by Ministry of Defence
The United States remains the UK’s closest defence and security ally. The Government assesses that working closely with the US delivers significant benefits for UK security through our deep cooperation on defence, intelligence, nuclear capabilities, NATO and AUKUS.
The Government's approach is to build on that existing close cooperation with the US while also deepening partnerships with other allies and partners. This enables the UK to maximise collective security, strengthen deterrence and advance our national interests in an increasingly contested strategic environment.
