France: Military Alliances

Asked by Stuart AndersonConservativeMinistry of DefenceTabled Answered 8 September 2026UIN 21573

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, what progress he has made on building on the 2010 Lancaster House Treaties with France.

Answered by Ministry of Defence

The UK and France have made significant progress in building on the 2010 Lancaster House Treaties through the agreement of the Lancaster House 2.0 Declaration in July 2025, which rebooted and modernised the bilateral defence and security partnership. Last month, on his first overseas visit, the Secretary of State for Defence met his French counterpart, Catherine Vautrin, in Paris, where they discussed continued progress under Lancaster House 2.0 and reaffirmed the importance of the UK-France defence partnership.
