To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, what progress he has made with Norway since the 2024 Joint Declaration on enhancing bilateral interoperability on NATO’s Northern Flank.

The UK and Norway negotiated a landmark defence agreement, the Lunna House Agreement, which was signed on 4 December 2025. This agreement marks the start of a new strategic partnership with Norway, building on the deal the UK secured in August 2025 to supply the Royal Norwegian Navy with at least five Type-26 frigates. This will strengthen both countries' national security. As members of NATO and the Joint Expeditionary Force, the agreement will complement our mutual commitment to the defence of the Euro-Atlantic area and Norway hosted the JEF Summit in May 2025.
The Carrier Strike Group, led by flagship carrier HMS Prince of Wales, deployed to the High North and Arctic this year under Operation FIRECREST. This deployment involved close cooperation between British and Norwegian forces, including exercise TAMBER SHIELD. In February of this year, the UK and Norway announced British troops deployed to Norway for training purposes will double over three years from 1,000 to 2,000 personnel. The UK deployed 1,500 Royal Marine Commandos to Norway in March 2026 as part of Exercise COLD RESPONSE under NATO's Arctic Sentry framework.
