Defence: Finance
The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, with reference to page 8 of his department’s Defence Industrial Strategy, published 8 September 2025, what progress has been made on ensuring that every pound spent on defence grows the economy.
Answered by Ministry of Defence
As set out in the Defence Industrial Strategy (DIS) and Defence Investment Plan (DIP), the Government is implementing measures to ensure defence spending strengthens national security and is an engine for economic growth. Progress includes developing a Defence Finance and Investment Strategy, reforming defence procurement, launching the £182 million DIS Skills Package, and providing £250 million of new funding to implement five Defence Growth Deals in Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Plymouth and South Yorkshire.
The Ministry of Defence has also launched a dedicated Defence Office for Small Business Growth to boost opportunities and access to defence contracts and the supply chain, on top of our commitment to increase spending with SMEs by £2.5 billion by May 2028. By backing UK businesses, the Defence Industrial Strategy will drive sustainable economic growth and create jobs across the UK.
