Defence: South Shropshire

Asked by Stuart AndersonConservativeMinistry of DefenceTabled Answered 8 September 2026UIN 21662

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, how many jobs in South Shropshire are in the defence sector.

Answered by Ministry of Defence

The Ministry of Defence’s published employment estimates are produced at regional level and are not sufficiently granular to identify jobs within individual constituencies.

In 2024/25, Ministry of Defence expenditure with UK industry directly supported approximately 7,900 jobs in the West Midlands. In addition, there were around 2,650 MOD civilian personnel and 7,090 UK Armed Forces personnel based in the region, bringing the total number of jobs supported by Defence activity in the West Midlands to approximately 17,600.
