Asked by Stuart AndersonConservativeMinistry of DefenceTabled Answered 8 September 2026UIN 21695

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, with reference to page 69 of his department’s Defence Industrial Strategy, published 8 September 2025, what progress has been made on the use of the defence estate to meet energy demands.

Answered by Ministry of Defence

The Ministry of Defence has made good progress in developing the evidence base and cross-government relationships needed to make the most effective use of the Defence estate, balancing the requirements of national security, and those of future energy demands.

Work has focused on understanding Defence’s future energy requirements, assessing potential estate opportunities, and ensuring that any energy developments support operational resilience, military capability and wider government objectives.
