Large Goods Vehicle Drivers

Asked by Mr Richard HoldenConservativeDepartment for TransportTabled Answered 8 September 2026UIN 21975

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, whether she plans to bring forward legislative changes to permit the electronic recording of domestic drivers’ hours to be recognised as the true record of activity.

Answered by Department for Transport

The Drivers’ Hours (Goods Vehicles) (Keeping of Records) Regulations 1987 prescribe the form and completion of records used to demonstrate compliance with the GB domestic drivers’ hours rules, including a requirement for entries to be made in writing. The department is considering whether electronic records could provide an alternative means of recording compliance, but no decision has been taken on whether to bring forward legislative changes.
