Taiwan: British Nationals Abroad

Asked by Navendu MishraLabourForeign, Commonwealth and Development OfficeTabled Answered 8 September 2026UIN 21948

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, what estimate he has made of the number of British Nationals in Taiwan as of 1 August 2026; and how many FCDO staff are based in Taiwan as of 1 August 2026.

Answered by Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office does not hold data on the number of British nationals resident overseas.

The UK has no diplomatic relations with Taiwan, but a strong, unofficial relationship. As of 1 August 2026, approximately 52 staff worked at the British Office Taipei. This comprises both staff from the UK and staff employed locally.
