Cultural Heritage: Publicity
The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, what steps she is taking to promote cultural and heritage assets overseas.
Answered by Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport
The UK’s cultural and heritage assets are a core component of our international economic and soft power, and DCMS is committed to furthering their global reach. The Soft Power Council has been advising the Government on a strategic approach to soft power to support this goal.
DCMS support enables these assets - from Stonehenge to the Edinburgh Festivals - to build international partnerships and audiences, which in turn bring valuable financial revenue and jobs to local economies across the UK. We work with VisitBritain to promote UK cultural destinations around the world, through campaigns such as ‘Starring GREAT Britain’, which draws upon the UK’s rich film and television history to encourage more international visitors to explore the whole of the UK.
