Motability

Asked by Shivani RajaConservativeDepartment for TransportTabled Answered 8 September 2026UIN 22384

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, what discussions his Department has held with Motability Operations regarding policies that automatically terminate a beneficiary’s existing car lease upon the cancellation of an unfulfilled new vehicle order due to adaptation incompatibility.

Answered by Department for Transport

Responsibility for the terms and administration of the Scheme, including policies about car leases, sits with Motability Foundation and its Board of Governors.

The Department for Work and Pensions meets regularly with Motability Foundation, the independent charity with responsibility for overseeing the Scheme, to discuss the Scheme’s operation. The policy about termination of car leases has not been part of these discussions.
