Artificial Intelligence: Education

Asked by Shivani RajaConservativeDepartment for EducationTabled Answered 8 September 2026UIN 22393

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Education, what steps the Department is taking to ensure that students in secondary education receive guidance on using artificial intelligence tools safely and responsibly.

Answered by Department for Education

The department is committed to ensuring that young people can use artificial intelligence (AI) safely, responsibly and effectively.

We have set Generative AI Product Safety Standards, which are clear expectations for developers of AI products used in education, including protections for children’s cognitive development, emotional wellbeing and mental health.

In addition, following the Curriculum and Assessment Review, we have accepted recommendations to strengthen digital literacy and introduce new content on AI, data science and bias within the computing curriculum, helping pupils develop the knowledge and skills needed to engage with AI safely and responsibly.
