Carers: Older People

Asked by Shivani RajaConservativeDepartment of Health and Social CareTabled Answered 7 September 2026UIN 22445

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what assessment her Department has made of the potential financial and psychological impact on elderly, pension-age family carers who receive no statutory wage or relief while commercial care rates increase in line with National Living Wage rises.

Answered by Department of Health and Social Care

On 29 July, as set out in the link below, the Prime Minister set out his objectives to reform the social care system, and brought forward the timetable for Baroness Casey’s commission to inform that reform programme. All aspects of the current system will be reviewed as part of that process, including the issues raised in the Hon Member’s questions, and we will continue to update Parliament on a regular basis.
