Armed Forces: Blood

Asked by Ben Obese-JectyConservativeMinistry of DefenceTabled Answered 7 September 2026UIN 22774

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, with reference to paragraph 109 of the Defence Investment Plan, published on 30 June 2026, what the full scope is of the £10 million for forward blood products.

Answered by Ministry of Defence

Following the announcement of Defence Investment Plan, Defence Medical Command (DMedC) is working to define the scope of the £10 million to develop or procure dried blood products to improve access closer to the point of injury on the battlefield.

DMedC continues to work with the Department for Health and Social Care (DHSC), NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) and industry partners to develop a sovereign spray dried plasma capability. Spray dried plasma offers potential operational advantages including ambient storage, extended shelf life and improved deployability in austere environments.
