Railway Stations

Asked by Mr Andrew SnowdenConservativeDepartment for TransportTabled Answered 8 September 2026UIN 22673

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, what criteria were used to determine the allocation of funding for new railway ticket gates.

Answered by Department for Transport

Train operators submitted proposals for consideration and these were assessed primarily on the basis of value for money. This included forecast revenue benefits and whole-life costs; deliverability and achievability of implementation timescales; local operational considerations, such as levels of anti-social behaviour and station layout constraints; and interactions with existing or planned pay-as-you-go ticketing schemes.
