Asked by Mr Andrew SnowdenConservativeDepartment for Business, Innovation, Science and TradeTabled Answered 8 September 2026UIN 22678

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, what discussions she has had with AI developers regarding the implementation of mandatory breaks for users under the age of 18.

Answered by Department for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade

The Government engaged extensively with a wide range of stakeholders, including AI developers, as part of our landmark consultation, "Growing up in the online world", which received more than 116,000 responses.

As announced in our response to the consultation, we will require AI chatbots to introduce mandatory breaks for under-18s. We will continue to engage regularly with a range of organisations as part of the policy development process.
