Asked by Mr Andrew SnowdenConservativeNorthern Ireland OfficeTabled Answered 8 September 2026UIN 22706

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, what estimate he has made of the annual cost to the public purse of the legacy mechanisms proposed to replace the Northern Ireland Troubles (Legacy and Reconciliation) Act 2023.

Answered by Northern Ireland Office

The Northern Ireland Office continues to have discussions with partners, including HM Treasury and the Independent Commission for the Retrieval of Information and Reconciliation (ICRIR), about the budget which will be required by the Legacy Commission which will replace ICRIR under the Northern Ireland Troubles Bill. These discussions will continue during the passage of the Bill as the shape of the new Commission is debated and set in statute.
