Guided Weapons

The Land Deep Fires Programme (LDFP) is the Army’s modernisation programme for long-range surface-to-surface fires and comprises a portfolio of platform and munition projects designed to deliver a “one platform, many effectors” capability.

The principal projects include:

• the recapitalisation of the M270 Multiple Launch Rocket Systems (MLRS) launchers, and the associated Repair and Recovery Vehicles that are on contract to be upgraded;
• the acquisition of Wheeled Long Range launcher battery;
• the MLRS Family of Munitions comprising Guided MLRS (GMLRS) and Extended Range GMLRS;
• the Precision Strike Missile programme, together with the development of Long Range Area Effect alternative effectors, and
• Tactical Capability Trainers simulators, including a deployable system, and multi-spectrum camouflage system.

Collectively, these projects will enhance the Army’s ability to deliver precise, long-range fires, improve interoperability with allies, and provide a scalable deep fires capability from 70km to over 500km range.

Research and experimentation into a UK-developed Long Range Area Effect capability is being undertaken to develop the mechanisms and payloads required to deliver alternative effects from current and future weapon systems.
