RFA Argus: Decommissioning

Asked by Ben Obese-JectyConservativeMinistry of DefenceTabled Answered 8 September 2026UIN 22832

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, with reference to the Ministry of Defence annual report and accounts 2025 to 2026, Losses, if he will provide further information on the £9,450,000 constructive loss in relation to the RFA Argus removal from service.

Answered by Ministry of Defence

The £9.45 million constructive loss relates to the decision to withdraw RFA Argus from service six years ahead of her most recent planned out-of-service date. Advancing her withdrawal was assessed to offer better value for money than continuing to maintain and operate a platform that had already substantially exceeded its intended service life.
