Armed Forces: Owner Occupation

Asked by Ben Obese-JectyConservativeMinistry of DefenceTabled Answered 7 September 2026UIN 22904

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, with reference to the 2025 Strategic Defence Review, what progress he has made in delivering recommendation 17.

Answered by Ministry of Defence

In line with Recommendation 17 of the Strategic Defence Review, Defence remains committed to supporting Service Personnel and their families in achieving their home ownership aspirations. We recognise that home ownership can play an important role in supporting recruitment, retention and long-term financial resilience, and we continue to support our Service Personnel through the Forces Help to Buy scheme and Refund of Legal Expenses provisions

Defence has established a Home Ownership Working Group and worked with representatives from the single Services and other stakeholders to consider opportunities to improve awareness, understanding and accessibility of existing support as well as assist Service Personnel in making informed housing decisions during their careers. Support is kept under review to ensure it remains aligned with the needs and aspirations of Service Personnel and their families.
