The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, with reference to the 2025 Strategic Defence Review, what progress has he made in strengthening Government powers to protect CNI where necessary, as outlined in Recommendation 27.

To deliver the SDR recommendations following the announcement of the Defence Investment Plan we will invest £470m to improve the security of military sites in the UK. This will enhance the security and resilience of Defence CNI, including across Defence's most critical sites.
In addition, through the Homeland Defence Programme, the protection of UK CNI remains a core focus of Government resilience efforts. Policy and planning initiatives seek to further strengthen the security and resilience of UK CNI, while increasing cross-government coordination to address emerging threats and vulnerabilities.
Work is underway to determine where new or updated legislative powers may be required to strengthen the Government's ability to protect CNI from national security threats. Any future legislation will be brought forward when Parliamentary time allows.
