The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, with reference to the 2025 Strategic Defence Review, what progress he has made in commencing discussions with the United States and NATO on the potential benefits and feasibility of enhanced UK participation in NATO’s nuclear mission, as outlined in Recommendation 30.

As detailed in the Defence Investment Plan (DIP), the US has called on European members to take greater responsibility for Europe’s security. The UK will support this objective by bolstering NATO’s deterrence and defence to counter Russia’s growing aggression. The DIP provides significant funding to renew our nuclear deterrent – the ultimate guarantor of UK security – and to purchase F-35As and join NATO’s Dual Capable Aircraft nuclear mission.
We will continue to work closely with the US, whose nuclear weapons are allocated to the NATO DCA mission, and our other NATO Allies on the timeline for doing so.
