Boeing E-7

Asked by Ben Obese-JectyConservativeMinistry of DefenceTabled Answered 8 September 2026UIN 22968

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, with reference to the 2025 Strategic Defence Review, what progress has he made in a) maintaining E-7 Wedgetail airborne early warning and control aircraft and b) procuring further E-7 aircraft by expediting a cost‑sharing arrangement with NATO Allies, as outlined in Recommendation 47.

Answered by Ministry of Defence

The MOD will assume responsibility for maintaining the E-7 Wedgetail aircraft once they are accepted into service. In preparation, training of maintenance personnel is already underway as part of wider efforts to establish and sustain the UK E-7 enterprise ahead of Initial Operating Capability.

The UK remains open to exploring all opportunities for future E-7 Wedgetail procurement, subject to the availability of funding.
