Cadets: Recruitment

Asked by Ben Obese-JectyConservativeMinistry of DefenceTabled Answered 7 September 2026UIN 23049

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, with reference to paragraph 3.1.22 of the Defence Investment Plan, published on 30 June 2026, what was the financial saving achieved by the delay until 2035 of the pledge to increase Cadets by 39% by 2030.

Answered by Ministry of Defence

The Department is investing an additional £83 million in the Cadet Forces over the next four years.

As set out in the Defence Investment Plan, we will not be able to meet the Strategic Defence Review recommendation of 30% growth in Cadet numbers by 2030. However, we remain committed to growing the size of our Cadet Forces and now aim to achieve this growth by 2035.
