HMP Camp Hill: Closures

Asked by Ben Obese-JectyConservativeMinistry of JusticeTabled Answered 8 September 2026UIN 23159

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Justice, what reason was cited for the closure of HMP Camp Hill and on what date was that decision taken.

Answered by Ministry of Justice

The information requested could only be obtained at disproportionate cost. To determine the specific rationale and internal decision date for each prison closure, the Department would need to identify and review historical records relating to closure decisions across 22 prisons over a number of years, and the cost of doing so would exceed the disproportionate cost threshold.
