The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, what assessment he has made of the potential impact of the removal of the DSACEUR role on the armed forces in the context of increased NATO spending commitments from European NATO allies.

In February 2026, NATO Chiefs of Defence agreed a revised allocation of key military leadership positions across the NATO Alliance. They agreed the UK should continue to hold the position of DSACEUR and should take on 4* command of Joint Force Command Norfolk. This is the first such revision since 2012 and there are not currently any discussions around the UK relinquishing the position of DSACEUR.
As set out in the DIP: The Government has committed to increasing defence spending to 3% of GDP in the next Parliament, with funding and plans to be set out at the next spending review where defence will be the number one priority. Alongside NATO allies, the UK has committed to reach 3.5% of GDP on defence spending by 2035.
