NATO: Navy

Asked by Ben Obese-JectyConservativeMinistry of DefenceTabled Answered 8 September 2026UIN 23186

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, how many SNMG sea days the Royal Navy contributes to each group annually compared to NATO allies.

Answered by Ministry of Defence

The Royal Navy routinely contributes to NATO's Standing Naval Forces, including Standing NATO Maritime Group 1 (SNMG1). This year, the UK fulfilled its leadership role in SNMG1, by providing a Royal Navy Commodore and specialist staff officers to command the Group. Sea days data cannot be released to protect operational security, however surface fleet readiness days are provided to the House of Commons Defence Committee regularly.
