Animal Feed: Cattle
The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, what assessment she has made of the impact of the lack of adequate feed for cattle on milk volumes.
Answered by Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs
While no data is held on the short-term potential impact of recent drought and heatwave conditions on grazing and silage production for UK dairy farms, Defra continues to work closely with the sector to maintain an over-view of grass growth and availability of silage and other forages. The UK Agricultural Market Monitoring Group reviews and analyses information for the main UK agricultural sectors including on weather conditions, livestock feed availability and prices, markets and levels of production. We continue to monitor the situation for forage availability through this and other routes.
