Armed Forces: Railways

Asked by Ben Obese-JectyConservativeMinistry of DefenceTabled Answered 8 September 2026UIN 23228

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, pursuant to the answer of 22 July 2026 to question 18797 on Railways: Armed Forces, by what date he plans to establish an integrated approach to international and domestic rail movements.

Answered by Ministry of Defence

The Ministry of Defence recognises the important role rail can play in strengthening military mobility and is progressing work to develop a more integrated approach to domestic and international rail movements. This forms part of wider efforts to enhance the resilience and effectiveness of Defence's strategic logistics network. Defence is engaging across Government, with industry and with international partners to ensure that future rail capability development supports operational requirements at home and overseas. Whilst no specific completion date has been established, this remains an important area of ongoing capability development.
