To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, what progress she has made on completing the construction of the Haslar Immigration Removal Centre in late 2026.

The Home Office is working at pace to open the redeveloped Haslar immigration removal centre (IRC) in 2027.
The Home Office is developing a new IRC at the site of the former Haslar IRC in Gosport, Hampshire. The Government is committed to maintaining a safe, secure and effective immigration detention estate that supports the removal of those with no right to remain in the United Kingdom. The redevelopment of Haslar is a key part of this work, providing additional detention capacity to strengthen enforcement activity and help deliver a more effective returns system.
Planning permission to expand the site’s capacity is being sought through the Crown Development route for nationally important development on Crown land. The Notification of Intent was submitted to the Planning Inspectorate on 7 May 2026. The Statement of National Importance was subsequently submitted to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, and the Crown Development planning application to the Planning Inspectorate, both on 29 May 2026.
