To ask the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade, with reference to the press release entitled Patients to benefit from faster access to medicines as UK moves away from animal testing in science, published on 12 August 2026, how many animal testing procedures will be replaced following the creation of the new Pre-clinical Translational Models Hub.

The Government has not made an estimate of the number of animal testing procedures that will be replaced as a result of the Pre-clinical Translational Models Hub. The Hub will support the development and sharing of human tissue models and other human-relevant approaches to medicines research, helping to reduce reliance on animals where scientifically justified and supported by validated alternatives. The extent of any reduction will depend on scientific progress, validation and regulatory uptake. Progress under the Replacing Animals in Science strategy will be reported through future delivery updates and key performance indicators.
