Asked by Ben Obese-JectyConservativeMinistry of DefenceTabled Answered 8 September 2026UIN 23357

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, with reference to the National Infrastructure and Service Transformation Authority Major Projects Annual Report 2025 to 2026, Tables, Multi Role Strike Ship, by what date the programme will be reset.

Answered by Ministry of Defence

The Defence Investment Plan confirmed that the Multi-Role Strike Ship programme would not be pursued and directed a shift in approach centred on the Amphibious Transport Ship. This reflects the Royal Navy’s developing Hybrid Navy concept and future Commando Force requirements. Defence is now progressing a potential joint UK-Netherlands Amphibious Transport Ship programme, subject to the relevant business case process, which offers a simpler, more affordable and adaptable platform aligned with a key NATO and JEF partner.
