Droughts: Food Supply
The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, what assessment she has made of the impact of drought on food security.
Answered by Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs
It is too early to assess the full impact of drought on food production. While some sectors are experiencing impacts both in the UK and abroad, there is currently no indication that UK food security is at risk.
Our diverse and resilient food system, supported by both domestic production and international trade, has historically responded well to withstand localised production shocks. Defra continues to monitor international as well as domestic supply, to identify any potential risks to our supply chains.
