Ministry of Defence: Senior Civil Servants

Asked by Charlie DewhirstConservativeMinistry of DefenceTabled Answered 8 September 2026UIN 23922

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, how many departmental Senior Civil Service away days have taken place in calendar year 2026 to date; in what specific venues; at what cost; and if there was any associated social or team-building activity at public expense.

Answered by Ministry of Defence

The Ministry of Defence does not maintain a centrally held list of away days undertaken by Senior Civil Servants. Away days are organised by individual Civil Servants at the local level and therefore the information requested could only be provided at disproportionate cost. Departmental policy requires that costs for away days should be kept to a minimum and must represent value for money.
