Department for Education: Facilities Agreements

Asked by Charlie DewhirstConservativeDepartment for EducationTabled Answered 8 September 2026UIN 23994

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Education, what was the total cost of facility time to the department in (a) 2023-24, (b) 2024-25 and (c) 2025-26; and what was the headcount number of facility time staff in each; how many were 100% facility time; and whether funding was provided for trade union activities in each of those years.

Answered by Department for Education

The total cost of facility time and the number of staff undertaking facility time in each year was:

Year

Total cost of facility time

Headcount number of facility time staff

2023/24

£61,652.81

35

2024/25

£95,608

37

2025/26

£126,814

32

No employees spent 100% of their working time on facility time in 2023/24, 2024/25 or 2025/26.

For the purposes of this response, 'funding for trade union activities' has been interpreted as paid trade union facility time for activities. The department did not provide separate funding for trade union activities in these years.
