Sanctions: Iran

Asked by Callum AndersonLabourTreasuryTabled Answered 7 September 2026UIN 24442

The question

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer, what assessment he has made of the resilience of the UK financial system to attempts by sanctioned Iranian entities to circumvent financial restrictions through (i) third countries, (ii) intermediaries or (iii) alternative payment channels.

Answered by Treasury

The UK maintains a robust sanctions framework and works closely with industry, regulators and international partners to defend the system against attempts by designated persons and entities to circumvent financial sanctions, including through third-country networks and alternative payment methods.

The Government continues to monitor sanctions evasion risks and will take action where appropriate to support compliance with UK sanctions and protect the integrity of the UK financial system.
