Landfill Communities Fund
The question
To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer, whether he plans to review the governance of the Landfill Communities Fund to improve the consistency of eligibility criteria across Environmental Bodies, including in relation to applications from town and parish councils.
Answered by Treasury
The Landfill Communities Fund is a voluntary tax credit scheme encouraging registered landfill site operators to support eligible community and environmental projects via contributions to registered Environmental Bodies.
As contributions are voluntary, landfill operators can select which Environmental Bodies to support who in turn can decide which eligible projects to fund.
The Government has not formally assessed the effectiveness or differing approaches adopted and has no plans to standardise the funding decisions made by individual Environmental Bodies.
The Government keeps the operation of the Landfill Communities Fund under review, as it does with all tax issues.
