Army: Vehicles
The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, what recent assessment his Department has made of cases in which Army vehicles with reported defects are being used by service personnel; how many such vehicles have been reported in each of the last three years; and what action has been taken in response to those reports.

The Army routinely assesses the serviceability and safety of its vehicle fleet through established engineering management processes. These include maintenance inspections, supervisory checks and assurance activity recorded and managed on the Joint Asset Management and Engineering Solutions (JAMES) Management Information System.
The Land Equipment Assurance Team inspections capture findings specifically related to the incorrect movement or authorisation of non-taskworthy (NT) vehicles. The findings recorded over the last three full years are as follows;

This data should not be read as evidence that unsafe vehicles were unknowingly used but instead it records a policy breach associated with the journey or authorisation of a NT vehicle on JAMES.
Where non-compliance is identified, units are instructed to take corrective action by addressing the immediate issue, reinforcing engineering policy and capturing lessons to prevent recurrence.
