Police: Workplace Pensions

Asked by Edward MorelloLiberal DemocratTreasuryTabled Answered 7 September 2026UIN 25030

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, what assessment she has made of the potential merits of providing transitional protections for members of the Police Pension Scheme who received pension benefit quotations before 2015.

Answered by Treasury

Pension benefit quotations are estimates based on the information available and the legislative framework in force at the time they are issued. Entitlement to pension benefits is determined in accordance with the relevant pension scheme regulations.

Transitional protection arrangements were put in place with the introduction of the 2015 police pension scheme to apply to those closest to retirement. These protections were found to be discriminatory to younger members and a remedy was put in place which came into force from 1 October 2023.
