Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Asked by Edward MorelloLiberal DemocratDepartment for Energy Security and Net ZeroTabled Answered 7 September 2026UIN 25063

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, what assessment she has made of the potential impact of woodland-based greenhouse gas removal units on demand for engineered greenhouse gas removals within the UK Emissions Trading Scheme.

Answered by Department for Energy Security and Net Zero

The UK Emissions Trading Scheme Authority set out its position on the integration of Greenhouse Gas Removals in its July 2025 Response to Consultation. This included published analysis and evidence on woodland creation in the UK, but no decision on the possible integration of woodland in the UK ETS has been made.
