The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Justice, what progress he has made on the rollout of Rapid Deployment Cells across the prison estate.

Answered by Ministry of Justice

As set out in the December 2024 10-Year Prison Capacity Strategy, we are committed to delivering an additional 14,000 prison places and aim to do so by 2031; we have already delivered c.3,300 of these since taking office.

As of 1 September 2026, the Rapid Deployment Cells Programme has delivered c.1,000 prison places.
