Hong Kong: Human Rights
The question
To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, whether he held discussions with the Chinese Foreign Minister on human rights and the rule of law in Hong Kong on 23 July 2026.
Answered by Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office
During his meeting with Foreign Minister Wang Yi, the Foreign Secretary discussed a range of issues, including areas where we disagree, such as the ongoing imprisonment of Jimmy Lai. Engagement with China matters precisely so we can make progress on issues of importance to the UK.
