Estonia

Asked by James McMurdockIndependentMinistry of DefenceTabled Answered 8 September 2026UIN 25468

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, with reference to the Ministry of Defence press release entitled European security strengthened under landmark UK and Estonia agreement, published on 16 July 2026, what assessment has been made of the potential impact of the UK-Estonia Defence Roadmap on the operational effectiveness of the UK's Forward Land Forces in Estonia.

Answered by Ministry of Defence

The UK-Estonia Defence Roadmap will modernise the UK's Forward Land Forces presence in Estonia to strengthen the defence and deterrence of Estonia as part of NATO. The decision followed extensive analysis, including comprehensive joint wargaming, which showed that the new Mobile Anti-Armour Force will deliver greater operational effect than the current armoured construct. The new force will provide greater mobility, enhanced survivability, greater endurance, and increased lethality resulting in a more capable force better suited to Estonia's operational environment.
