Public Finance

Asked by James McMurdockIndependentTreasuryTabled Answered 8 September 2026UIN 25735

The question

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer, what recent discussions his Department has had with the Office for Budget Responsibility on the adequacy of the level of weighting for (a) future unfunded pension liabilities and (b) other significant long-term commitments when assessing fiscal sustainability.

Answered by Treasury

The Office for Budget Responsibility is independent and is responsible for determining the methodology and assumptions used in its assessment within its fiscal risk and sustainability report. Its Economic and Fiscal Outlook assesses the shorter term sustainability of the public finances, including assessing performance against the Government's fiscal rules.
