Vocational Education

Asked by James McMurdockIndependentDepartment for EducationTabled Answered 7 September 2026UIN 25739

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Education, with reference to her Department's joint press release entitled Government invests in young people with more opportunities close to home, published on 28 July 2026, what recent discussions her Department has had with local authorities and local leaders on identifying the areas for which additional education and training places are most needed.

Answered by Department for Education

Local authorities hold the statutory responsibility for ensuring the sufficiency of 16 to 19 provision in their areas. As part of the assessment process of bids, the department engaged with the local authorities where providers in their area applied to the Post 16 and Construction Skills Capacity Fund, so that the local authorities’ views could be taken into account.
