To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, what assessment has been made of the long-term potential impact of the recent drought on habitats in (a) Basildon, (b) Thurrock, and (c) South Essex.

Natural England's immediate focus during the recent drought has been to support water companies, regulators, and other stakeholders in implementing measures to reduce impacts on the natural environment.
The long-term effects of drought on habitats can vary depending on habitat type, severity, and duration of water shortages. Recovery is also dependent on post-drought conditions and site management.
Through our ongoing monitoring and engagement with partners, Natural England will continue to assess the condition of protected sites and identify where management actions may be required to support habitat resilience and recovery.
