Asked by James McMurdockIndependentDepartment for Business, Innovation, Science and TradeTabled Answered 7 September 2026UIN 25772

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade, with reference to the Government press release entitled £130 million for cutting-edge next generation vehicles securing over 1,800 jobs, published on 10 August 2026, what assessment has been made of the extent to which the investment will result in additional private investment in the UK.

Answered by Department for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade

Projects announced in the Government's press release of 10 August 2026 were assessed through the relevant programme assessment processes before funding was awarded, following a competitive exercise. Funding is awarded only where projects are assessed as delivering benefits that would be unlikely to be realised to the same extent, scale or timeframe without government support.
