Asked by Sarah PochinReform UKHome OfficeTabled Answered 8 September 2026UIN 25872

The question

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, if she will prevent newly built homes intended to meet local housing need from being procured by Home Office contractors for use as asylum accommodation.

Answered by Home Office

Asylum seekers are not eligible for social housing and new council housing will not be constructed for use by asylum seekers under any circumstances. The Home Secretary has been clear that new builds should not be used for the purposes of housing asylum seekers.
